Established in 2005 under the impetus of the AFM-Telethon and Inserm, I-stem is dedicated to research on stem cells for the treatment and study of monogenic diseases.
The Institute for Stem Cell Therapy and Exploration of Monogenic diseases (I-stem) is a research and development centre of international reference dedicated to the development of treatments based on the potential offered by pluripotent stem cells (ECs and iPS) and applicable to rare diseases of genetic origin. Its objective is to promote these approaches from their development to clinical research.

Highlights in 2025
In 2025, I-Stem celebrated its 20th anniversary at a scientific symposium held at PariSanté Campus. The associated Inserm unit was evaluated by Hcéres and renewed for five years from January 1, 2026.
I-Stem also coordinates the European Dreams programme, which combines artificial intelligence, stem cells and drug screening to identify new treatments for five rare diseases, and participates in the “La Cellule médicament” programme, which aims to structure a European cell therapy sector accessible to as many people as possible.
