The Biotherapies Institute, a unique and exceptional task force

Launched in 2012, the Biotherapies Institute gathers the expertise of existing laboratories to accelerate and manage the development of innovative treatments for rare diseases.

The AFM-Telethon has driven many research projects. With each Telethon, it has also developed laboratories, alone or in partnership with public institutions. To go faster and further, and to address the challenge of innovative treatments for rare diseases, the AFM-Telethon has launched the Biotherapies Institute for rare diseases.

A unique and exceptional task force with 650 experts, R & D specialists, clinical development experts, the Biotherapies Institute brings together the expertise of four existing laboratories:

  • The Institute of Myology (research and therapies for muscle diseases),
  • I-Stem (cell therapies and stem cells),
  • Genethon  (gene therapy for rare diseases)
  • Atlantic Gene Therapies (gene therapy for rare diseases)

“The Biotherapies Institute creates synergies, gathers know-how, expertise and research teams to accelerate the development of innovative treatments for patients,” explains Marc Peschanski, Scientific Coordinator of the Biotherapies Institute and Scientific Director of I-Stem. This progress is the result of the exceptional mobilisation of Telethon donors and partners at our side during all these years.”
