On Friday November 9th, the Japanese physician and researcher, Shinya Yamanaka, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine on October 8th for his work on IPS cells (Induced Pluripotent Stem cells), visited the I-Stem laboratory in Evry.
Shinya Yamanaka visited the Institute for Stem cell Therapy and Exploration of Monogenic diseases (I-Stem) that explores the therapeutic potential of human, embryonic, IPS and adult stem cells in genetic diseases. It is one of the pioneers and most important laboratory in France in this research area. It is 50% financed by the AFM-Telethon.
During his visit, Shinya Yamanaka commended the French teams: “I am very impressed with the technology developed by I-Stem and the work carried out on stem cells. We absolutely must continue developing this promising approach, which generates hope for cures for millions of patients around the world. Thanks so much for the work you do, and be assured, we will move forward together.”
