A centre for research, care and teaching on muscle and its diseases, it currently participates in around 60 clinical trials.<\/p>\n<p>AFM-Telethon&#8217;s objective in creating the Institute of Myology was to promote the existence and recognition of myology as a discipline in its own right. The Institute therefore set itself several missions:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.institut-biotherapies.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/image-contenu-670.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3252\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3252\" title=\"Institut de Myologie\" src=\"https:\/\/www.institut-biotherapies.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/image-contenu-670.jpg\" alt=\"Institut de Myologie \u00e0 Paris\" width=\"210\" height=\"140\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Combine efficient investigative means<\/strong> for diagnosis and treatment<\/li>\n<li>Develop <strong>coordinated clinical research programs<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Participate in the development of new therapies<\/strong> and be a reference centre for clinical trials<\/li>\n<li>Provide families a <strong>welcome, an attentive ear and adapted medical expertise<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Train and inform <strong>to raise awareness and recognition of these diseases<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Expertise<\/h2>\n<p>With 300 physicians, researchers, engineers, paramedics, doctoral and post-doctoral fellows and other experts, the Institute of Myology brings together diverse and complementary skills from basic research to treatments:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Basic research<\/strong>: genetics and pathophysiology, pre-clinical and clinical therapeutic approaches, biotherapies for neuromuscular diseases<\/li>\n<li><strong>Evaluation of muscle strength and function<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Functional exploration by <strong>spectrometry and imaging<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Clinical and genetic diagnostics of neuromuscular diseases<\/li>\n<li><strong>Medical management<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Management of clinical databases<\/li>\n<li>Distribution of biosamples for Research (<strong>Myobank<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li>Participation and implementation of <strong>studies and clinical trials<\/strong> (31 protocols in progress)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Basic research:<\/strong> genetics and pathophysiology, preclinical and clinical therapeutic approaches, biotherapies for neuromuscular diseases<\/li>\n<li><strong>Evaluation of muscle strength and function<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Functional investigation using <strong>spectrometry and imaging<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Clinical and genetic diagnosis of neuromuscular diseases<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Medical care and psychological support (Myocare centre, created in 2024)<\/li>\n<li>Management of <strong>clinical databases<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Provision of tissue for research<\/strong> (Myobank-AFM: more than 34,700 samples stored)<\/li>\n<li>Participation in and implementation of <strong>studies and clinical trials<\/strong> (45 adult trials and 15 paediatric trials ongoing in 2025)<\/li>\n<li>Teaching<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Highlights in 2025<\/h2>\n<p>The project to transform the Association Institut de Myologie (AIM) into a Foundation reached a decisive milestone in 2025 with the laying of the foundation stone for the 10,000 m\u00b2 building that will house it, located next to the Piti\u00e9-Salp\u00eatri\u00e8re Hospital.
